Dishonest Science – Intimidation

Comedian Ben Stein (of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off) made the twelfth biggest documentary in movie history about scientists whose careers were threatened because their findings upset rationalist religious dogmas.  Called “Expelled – No Intelligence Allowed” the DVD is available for rent or purchase through Amazon.  Click here to view the trailer.  Click here to rent or purchase

Stein interviewed scientists around the world who have been ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired for their findings.  He also interviewed the rationalists involved in the dirty work.

Towards the end of the DVD, the normally blustering Richard Dawkins is interviewed by Stein.  It was sadly amusing to see Dawkins flounder as soon as he realized that the comedian was not there to help Dawkins’ campaign of ridicule, but to seek truth.

Since Ben Stein’s DVD there have been new cases of academics being sacked or side-lined for failing to push the rationalist political agenda.  In fact, Macquarie University in Australia has quite a reputation for this kind of intimidation.

It appears they brought Professor Murry Salby to Australia in 2008 with his climate models.  He says that when he was critical of some of the more reckless claims made for the human-induced global warming theory,[1] they starved his research of resources, confiscated the tools of his research and finally used appalling administrative tactics to exile him from academia in Australia in 2013.[2]

A few months later, Australia’s James Cook University got rid of Australia’s leading climate scientist,[3] Professor Bob Carter who had been at the university for 31 years.  He also was an effective critic of the notion that humans cause global warming.  Once again, degrading administrative tactics were used, not because his science had been faulted, but because his scientific understanding so effectively contradicted the religious fervour of the global warming zealots.[4]

In recent years most university students have felt similar pressure to conform to the rationalistic ideas of their teachers.  Universities used to be places where people learned to think.  Today, students flunk their exams if they don’t regurgitate rationalism and its anti-Christian “politically correct” values.
