Values derived from evolution have underpinned the world’s most brutal regimes
The key to rationalism’s values is its fanatical faith in the unscientific idea that life “evolved” from non-life through materialistic, mechanistic processes that they cannot describe. As a theory to be tested, such a view of evolution can be tolerated within the heady halls of academia. But as a faith to be spread in a community it is truly harmful because it presents the entire human species as an accident that only has value if it can survive. That makes each individual profoundly insignificant.
Such thinking has led many regimes to treat individuals as expendable. Hitler, Stalin and their bloodthirsty offspring are gruesome but typical examples.
More generally, in the 20th century, 24 million died in battle in the two world wars. But over six times more (156 million)[1] were killed on the orders of their own rationalistic governments.
Such cruelty is in no small measure due to rationalist academics in western universities that teach, without a shred of evidence, the completely unscientific idea that life evolved from non-life. On that basis, many of their students who have subsequently risen to power have felt justified in eliminating people they regarded as blocking the path to their grisly version of ‘progress.’
How materialism has damaged the values of rationalist psychology
If rationalism’s materialistic belief about the origin of life were true, free-will would not exist. Everything a person is would have been predetermined by the biochemical processes that formed her or him.
Determinism of that kind infects the thinking of most psychologists. On that false premise they mislead our courts and pervert our justice by giving ‘expert’ opinions such as: “He can’t help being a criminal, he was born that way because of his grandparent’s genes, or because of bad parenting, or because of any one of a thousand other factors in his life.” Personal responsibility flies out the window and justice goes with it.
