Summary of Christian ontology so far

Christian beliefs about the nature of existence can be summarized as follows:

  • The universe was created by God – an all-wise, all-powerful, un-created Spirit-being consisting of Father, Son and Holy Spirit who eternally enjoy harmonious, intimate, blissfully loving relationships.
  • Desire for such relationships is woven into the spirit, soul and body of every human being
  • God envisaged mankind before the foundation of the world and then created our spirit in God the Son to secure the Father’s purpose and passion of adopting us as His children
  • Unloving rebellion by the first humans left all their descendants with warped, guilt-based views of God that are still evident in all man-made religions
  • At the right time in history, God the Son became the man Jesus who was empowered by the Holy Spirit to:
    1. reveal the Father accurately and correct our flawed ideas about God
    2. die so that everything created in Him was de-created in Him
    3. rise from the dead so that everything de-created was re-created in Him – including our human spirits, which had been so corrupted by sin that we were too afraid to want intimacy with God as His children
    4. lead the way as the first of countless human beings to enjoy in Christ an eternal face to face communion with the Father
