DNA information confounds rationalism’s materialistic explanations of origins

The presence of information is the key problem for rationalist cosmology:

  • information is an ordered sequence of symbols that conveys a message
  • information is only created by intelligent beings
  • information is the basis of all ordered systems that function predictably
  • the universe is a vast ordered system that functions predictably
  • therefore, the universe was created by a highly intelligent being

If an intelligent being put information into DNA to convey a message, it was because that being expected the receiver to understand and act on it.  But the message could only be understood by using ordered systems known to its receiver – systems, which in this case must have been put in place by the intelligent being before sending the message.

This means that not only DNA, but all the systems that interpret and act on its vast store of instructions must have come into existence together.  And because all of them are so information-rich, they lead to the unavoidable conclusion that they are the creation of a highly intelligent being.

Rejecting even the possibility of creation seems like prejudice.  But when rationalist cosmology asserts that life ‘evolved,’ it goes beyond prejudice into deceit because:

  • life must first exist and reproduce before natural selection can cause anything to evolve; and
  • the DNA information in every cell is, to all but the prejudiced, cogent evidence that life was designed by an intelligent being
