Success in almost any field depends on finding and fixing truth decay in our worldview. So what is a worldview?
Everyone has one. It influences everything we think, don’t think, notice, fail to notice, say, don’t say, do and don’t do. It is the collection of theories, opinions, beliefs and prejudices that we use to interpret all that we encounter. It is like a pair of glasses through which we view the world.
Wrong glasses will distort what we see. In the same way, a worldview full of truth decay distorts our perceptions as we try to make sense of the world. That kind of truth decay has wrecked many lives, families, relationships, careers and businesses.
Take the case of a man who based his business life on an unrealistically positive outlook. He ignored negative feedback that should have improved his performance. After wasting a large inheritance, he went bankrupt, alienated his children by using their clean credit ratings for more failed ventures and eventually destroyed his otherwise happy marriage.
Counterfeit “truth” is everywhere. It often inflicts pain. It can change wonderful idealists into bitter cynics.
Spin Doctors are causing an epidemic of truth decay. They twist the truth for politicians, media magnates, big business, unions, money-hungry science and even big religion. These Spin Doctors are experts at dressing up half-truths as exciting new ideas.
They make the truth quite hard to find. Yet to succeed in any field we must discover what is true – about our self, our relationships, our customers, our politicians and so on. The Spin Dentist exists to help you discover what is and is not true in key areas.
Of course, going to the dentist is not always fun. So why do we go? It’s because we feel so good after our tooth ache is gone. That’s a great feeling!
But getting rid of certain other types of pain feels even better – the pain of broken relationships for example, or the pain of feeling inadequate, being put down or used or the very common pain of just not succeeding. That kind pain can usually be stopped by correcting our worldview. And to do that we must tackle the truth decay that lies hidden in our assumptions and prejudices.
